Kerala’s Doctor from Palakkad trekked through a forest to treat Covid patients in tribal areas

Dr Sukanya AK, an assistant surgeon at the Pudur Family Health Care Center in Attapadi, Palakkad worked in many medical camps and visited every tribal village, even crossed the river, but never denied work in a tough situation.

Dr Vinith, assistant surgeon, Pudur FHC said that once the vehicle in which their vehicle got stuck in a forest area due to heavy rainfall and they had to trek nearly four kilometres to reach the tribal area. Dr Vinith praised Dr Sukanya, health inspector Sunil Vasu, junior health inspector Saiju, and driver Sajesh Alakkal for their efforts in treating the tribals who got infected. As no big buildings were available, a boys’ high school and the hostel was converted into Domicile Covid domicile care centre with 100 and 75 beds respectively. Sukanya and her team walked to Mukkali and arranged an ambulance to bring tribal people to Pudur DCC by on the same day.

Rajan, Zilla Secretary, Adivasi Kshema Samithi district committee said that doctors and medical staff at Pudur FHCC were lifesavers and the tribal area was blessed to have such a dedicated team. Kerala health minister Veena George has also appreciated the teamwork of Dr Sukanya.
